Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in clarity and transparency. Investing in a permanent structure is a significant decision, and you deserve clear, honest answers. Below are the questions we hear most often, organized by topic.

ABOUT WUNDERBAR STRUCTURES

Q. What does "Wunderbar" mean?

In German, Wunderbar translates to "wonderful." However, it conveys a richer meaning—the marvelous or the amazing. It is the highest praise, recognizing that something has exceeded every expectation. This is the standard we have held ourselves to since 1997.

Q. Are your structures truly Amish-built?

Yes. Our company is Amish-owned and operated. Every structure is meticulously crafted by hand in our Loganton, Pennsylvania workshop by our dedicated team of Amish craftsmen. We adhere strictly to the traditional values of integrity, hard work, and meticulous attention to detail.

Q. What is the relationship between Wunderbar Structures and E.K.’s Structures?

They are two parts of the same family business. E.K.’s Structures, founded in 1997, is the manufacturer; they operate the workshop and build the structures.

Wunderbar Structures is our dedicated retail division, allowing you to buy directly from the family that builds your product. The ownership, the builders, and the commitment to quality are the same.

Q. Why is buying directly from the manufacturer better than buying from a dealer?

By eliminating the middleman, we take direct responsibility for your entire experience. Communication is clearer, pricing is transparent, and you have a direct relationship with the craftsmen building your structure.

This allows us to maintain our high standards and ensure you receive superior craftsmanship at an honest value.

Q. Where can I see your structures in person?

We have retail locations owned directly by us. Visit our  Locations Page to view all of our locations.

Quality and Materials

Q. What is the difference between a Wunderbar structure and a shed from a hardware store or Big Box Store?

The primary difference lies in our commitment to permanence. Hardware store kits prioritize low cost, often using lower-grade lumber, thinner materials (like particle board or standard OSB), and wider stud spacing (e.g., 24 inches).

We build permanent solutions using residential standards: 2x4 wall studs 16 inches on center, robust plywood flooring (typically 5/8ʺ–3/4ʺ), premium siding, and architectural shingles.

Q. How are your floors constructed?

We believe the foundation is critical. Our floors typically use pressure-treated 4x4 runners, 2x4 pressure-treated floor joists (16" on center, or 12" for garages), and high-grade plywood flooring. This ensures a solid, rot-resistant base capable of supporting heavy loads. We avoid materials like standard OSB or particle board for flooring, as they degrade quickly when exposed to moisture.

Q. How long will my structure last?

Our structures are built to last for generations. We use materials with long-term warranties (such as 50 years for smartside siding and lifetime for shingles) and provide a comprehensive structural warranty on our craftsmanship. With basic maintenance, your structure should serve you for decades.

Q. What kind of siding do you recommend?

We offer several durable options, including Vinyl, T1-11 (traditional wood), Board & Batten, Log, and Metal. However, we often recommend LP SmartSide.

Q. What is LP SmartSide?

LP SmartSide is an engineered wood product treated with a proprietary process to resist rot, fungal decay, and termites.

It provides the beauty of wood with exceptional durability and carries a 50-year manufacturer warranty.

Q. What are my roofing options?

We offer two primary options selected for their longevity:

Architectural Shingles: High-quality asphalt shingles that carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty.

Metal Roofing: A durable, low-maintenance option offering excellent resistance to the elements.

Q. Can I customize my structure?

Yes. While we honor timeless designs rooted in the Amish tradition of simplicity, we offer robust customization options.

You can choose the size, siding material, colors, placement of doors and windows, and interior features like lofts or workbenches.

Q. Do you offer a 3D design tool?

Yes. We utilize modern design tools, including a 3D visualizer, allowing you to experiment with styles, colors, and options to visualize the final product before we begin construction.

Q. Can you match the colors of my house?

We offer a wide range of standard colors. If you require a precise match, you can provide us with the specific paint code from a major manufacturer, and we can use that custom color on your structure.

Q. Can your buildings be insulated or finished internally?

Yes. Because we use standard residential framing (16” on center), it is straightforward for you or a contractor to add insulation, drywall, or wiring later. We can also customize the build (e.g., adding house wrap) to prepare it for interior finishing.

Purchasing, Pricing, and Financing

Q. Are you the cheapest option?

No, and we choose not to be. We focus on providing the best long-term value. While the initial investment may be higher than low-cost alternatives, our structures are built with superior materials and craftsmanship, preventing the need for frequent repairs or premature replacement.

Q. Do you offer financing or Rent-to-Own (RTO)?

Yes. We aim to make the investment in quality accessible. We offer traditional financing options (with approved credit) as well as a flexible Rent-to-Own (RTO) program.

Q. How does the Rent-to-Own (RTO) program work?

Our RTO program offers low monthly payments without a credit check. It is a straightforward agreement that allows you to use the structure while paying for it over a set term (e.g., 36 or 48 months). You can pay off the balance early without penalty.

Q. Are there any hidden fees?

No. We value radical transparency. Our quotes clearly outline the cost of the structure, customization options, site preparation (if selected), and delivery. We do not inflate our prices just to offer artificial discounts.

Q. How long does it take from order to delivery?

Lead times vary depending on the complexity of the structure and the season. Generally, custom structures are ready within 4 to 8 weeks. We prioritize the quality of the build over speed, ensuring your structure is crafted with the necessary care.

Delivery And Site Preparation

Q. Do I need a permit for my structure?

Most likely, yes. Permit requirements vary significantly based on your local municipality's zoning laws. It is the customer's responsibility to check with their local zoning office and secure any necessary permits before delivery. We can provide detailed drawings if required for your application.

Q. What kind of site preparation is required?

A solid, level foundation is crucial. For most sheds and single-car garages, we strongly recommend a professionally prepared pad of compacted crushed stone (4-6 inches deep). This promotes drainage and prevents the base from rotting. Concrete pads are recommended for larger garages. The site must also be accessible for our delivery equipment.

Q.Can Wunderbar Structures prepare the site for me?

While our primary focus is manufacturing, we coordinate professional site preparation services through trusted local contractors. We can manage this process for you or recommend a professional to ensure the foundation is prepared correctly. Read More About Our Delivery & Site Preperation

Q. How is the structure delivered?

Most of our structures are built completely in our Loganton workshop and delivered fully assembled via a specialized truck and trailer. Read More About Our Delivery & Site Preperation

Q. What if access to my property is tight or fenced?

We are equipped to handle challenging deliveries. If the space is too tight for our truck and trailer, we use a specialized piece of equipment called a "Mule."

Q. What is a "Mule"?

The Mule is a compact, motorized shed mover. It allows us to maneuver the structure off the trailer and navigate it through tighter spaces and across yards with minimal disruption to your landscaping.

Q. Do you offer complimentary site assessments?

Yes. If you have concerns about accessibility, we can conduct a site assessment. We often use modern tools, like satellite-based evaluation, or may schedule an in-person visit to determine the best delivery method and ensure a smooth installation.

Q. What if the structure cannot be delivered fully assembled?

If access is impossible even with our specialized equipment, or if the structure is too large to transport, we offer build-on-site options. This involves our craftsmen assembling the structure directly on your prepared foundation.

Warranty And Maintenance

Q. What kind of warranty do you offer?

We stand behind our work with confidence. We typically offer a 30-year structural warranty, alongside significant manufacturer warranties on components (such as the 50-year warranty on LP SmartSide siding and lifetime warranty on architectural shingles). Our commitment to quality is built to last.

Q. What happens if I have an issue with my structure after delivery?

As a family-owned manufacturer, we take personal responsibility for your satisfaction. If you encounter any issues related to the construction or materials, please contact us directly. We are committed to resolving any concerns promptly and fairly.
